What Does Your Dream Retirement Look Like?
I think that as a lot of us Boomers aredreaming about retirement, the dream does not mean taking to our rocking chair waiting in eager anticipation for the arrival of our Social Security Check.
Instead, I believe that many of us want to continue working, only on different terms than we have been doing for years and years. For some of us, we want to do work that really matters, others have always dreamed of doing ___________ , lots of us would love to start our own business for lots of reasons.
Is Now the Time to Strut Your Stuff?
I have owned my own business for over ten years, and believe me, I have never worked harder, and my "boss" expects a lot. That said, I love the freedom and flexibility it gave me. I would like to encourage any of you to take your experience and/or passions and start your own website.
I know, just the thought might send chills down your spine, as you imagine working with a webmaster, spending thousands of dollars etc. I just want you to know it does not have to be like that at all!. Millions of people have websites today that have not much experience with technology. They are using WordPress!
I used to have a website I had to have a webmaster manage for me. A couple of years ago I had someone build me a WordPress website. It came pretty bare bones, and I had no idea what to do with it. I bought "WordPress for Dummies" only to prove to myself I was not even smart enough to understand that!
Sure, I could have just made the excuse that I just did not know anything about computers and leave it at that. But I am passionate about our generation keeping up with technology. If we don't, let's face it, we will just be left behind in the dust. Technology has made strides at lightening speed, so now more than ever before in history we have to challenge ourselves to get in the game!
The good news is that it is great fun. The bad news is that many of us have to learn a bunch of stuff. But hey, using our brains is not a bad thing. All of us here are "active empty nesters", and I am sure we can jump any hurtle in front of us, so I invite you to come on along.
